Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee) gives birth to her third boy and right after First Manchu invasion of Korea and Crown Princess, wife of Crown Prince Sohyeon (Baek Sung Hyun) who is the first son of King Injo (Kim Jae Won), also has the eldest grandson of the King.

Ooh! It is fast-moving and Lee Yeon Hee looks too young as a mother of three children. lol
I think we need to know about the invasion briefly.

<Background (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)>
Joseon helped Ming China with 10,000 soldiers when Ming China attacked Manchurian Later Jin under Nurhaci in 1619, but Korean General Gang Hong-rip surrendered to Nurhaci. Gang insisted that Korea did not hold anything against the Manchus and that he sent reinforcements only to repay an obligation to Ming.
In Korea, the Western faction deposed the realist King Gwanghaegun and installed King Injo in 1623. This faction took explicit pro-Ming, anti-Manchu policies. Also, Ming Mobile Corps Commander Mao Wenlong engaged in guerrilla warfare, based on an island off the Korean peninsula.
The first Manchu expedition was triggered by Yi Gwal's rebellion against King Injo in 1624. The revolt was soon crushed but remnants fled to Manchuria. They recommended Huang Taiji to invade Korea.

Crown Prince Sohyeon joins forces with his father's political opponents including the Princess stopping government forces who deliver their prisoners over to the invading army.
Grand Prince Bongrim (Lee Min-Ho) warns that if his brother moves against the father he would be upset but he wouldn't change his opinion for anything.

Grand Prince Gongrim (Bongrimdaegun), the second son of King Injo, became King Hyojong later, the seventeenth king of the Joseon Dynasty.

Kang Joo Sun (Jo Sung Ha), who has seized absolute power for many decades, begins to go behind and his wife incites Jo Yeo Jung (Kim Min Seo) to fight the Crown Prince.

The setting of the TV series is real but Kang Joo Sun is a fictional character.
How about Jeongmyeong? The Princess had never been to Japan as a slave and she got married to Hong Joo Won but she was not a heroine.
Sometimes I am concerned about historical distortion in TV series, films, or novel based on historical facts for the historically challenged like me. :(

Injo is outraged by a hand-written letter from Khan of the Later Jin dynasty, asking Joseon to serve the Qing Dynasty which is coming to the force as a new dominating force among the nations of the Chinese continent. Crown Prince clenches fists trembling in anger.

  1. I AM GLAD THEY CHANGE HISTORY AROUND FOR SOME OF THESE DRAMAS. I DON'T WATCH FOR A HISTORY LESSON. I TUNE IN TO SEE HEROES AND HEROINES WHICH MAKE FOR SOMEONE TO ROOT FOR AND MAKES IT MORE INTERESTING AND WORTH WATCH. I REALLY LIKE THIS DRAMA BECAUSE OF THE CHANGES.
