Hong Joo Won (Seo Kang Joon) pleads with the general not to issue an order to retreat expressing concern about the political crisis of Gwanghae (Cha Seung Won) if the troops will be in full retreat against Ming. 
Princess Jeongmyeong (Lee Yeon Hee) overheard them arguing also persuades him that is worth fighting for the King just as he wants to protect them.

Kang In Woo (Han Joo Wan) tells Jeongmyeong the truth that Ming will use the firing squads of Joseon as the bait.
Joo Won asks his friend to help the Princess and the other people to go home in a whole skin. In Woo accepts to his demand and gets Emperor Ming's permission to let the soldiers armed with sword and bow and arrow are thrown in the operation to cover the firing squads while loading guns.

Gwanghae sheds tears standing in front of Yi Deok Hyung (Lee Sung Min)'s grave without a tombstone. He warns crown prince and Yi Icheom (Jung Woong In), a grandfather on the prince's wife, to handle the approaching crisis not only in the royal palace but also in the whole nation.

Kang Joo Sun (Jo Sung Ha) thinks of this and that to find the King's weakness to let Prince Neungyang (Kim Jae Won) sit on the throne although he is not suited for it. The Prince falling at his feet promises himself to carry coals for the crown. Joo Sun gathers forces to fight against Gwanghae and Neungyang visited Queen Inmok (Shin Eun Jung) swears he will take revenge on the King for her dead son hiding his avarice.
Meanwhile, Kim Gae Shi (Kim Yeo Jin) lets Jo Yeo Jung (Kim Min Seo) keep watching on the King's movements, just in case.

Before the battle begins, the general appeals to the soldiers sincerely to survive to the last. As the Joseon troops seize the chance to victory thanks to a good strategy, the Imperial Prince of Ming orders his forces to fight against Qing because he doesn't want people from the small nation to distinguish themselves at the battle and the soldiers of Qing are in full retreat.

However, their sense of triumph is short-lived as the Imperial prince orders them to advance on the capital of Qing, and the troops are attacked the enemy from ambush. 
Joo Won pleads with the Princess to leave the battlefield with In Woo and the other soldiers while buying time. He kisses her on the lips and swears to go back home to stand by his lady. 
In Woo makes his farewells saying he believes that he would surely come back.
